I'm all for gray characters, but I'd have wanted more that were definitely a lighter shade of gray. So while I'm personally not unhappy with the party we'll ultimately get, I'm still disappointed in the lost potential of the roster. Although it seems like we're going to already have two potential Fighters on our hands (Lae'zel obviously, and potentially Jaheira depending on what they do with her), I would nominate Aradin for this. No creche or hissing at me, and no long and storied history with the previous games, just a temperamental set of muscles for my party with a great head of curls. It's a long way of saying I agree with this point. I'm very happy to see companions added alongside Origins as this helps us expand our roster and help maneuver through the pairs of characters that simply cannot and will not co-exist - which I think is a great thing - but I would like to see it expanded just a bit more. Maybe it will with time, who knows. I'm still in the honeymoon phase of this info dump so I could be overly positive at the moment. Speaking of the info dump, there's a lot of stuff here that really has me jazzed. They threw in some non-PHB subclasses that I really like and was not expecting. Dragonborn look fantastic, and I'm a fan of Half-Orcs so that has me in a great mood. I'm interested to see what they did with Monk. Karlach looks incredible. While I was personally holding out hope for level 14 cap, a cap of level 12 is still perfectly fine. No Aasimars does bum me out just a tad. No party lock is huge and for some reason gives me hope that they may have budged on letting us choose a larger party size as an option but, again, the hype is making me overly positive. Great update! July 7th can't come soon enough with its added information. |

I am pretty sure the community has been quite disappointed in the amount of home-brew by Larian and is this going to be another debacle? I guess only time will tell. This also has me shuttering over how stealth mechanics continue to work, other "bonus action but should be full action" abilities and skills in the game, and reactions throughout the combat/game mechanics. |

So paraphrasing: There can only be one final Origin - therefore I assume only one more Origin will be revealed. Technically, Larian could reveal multiple characters and as long as they reveal all origins that are meant to ship their statement would be correct as one of them can be treated as "the final one" - but that would be a very weird way of phrasing it. They don't say they will reveal remaining origins or that is more to come - they say: we will reveal out final origin. Singular. Last edited by Wormerine; 29/06/23 08:15 PM. |

And frankly while the community put its best effort in making him come off as almost insufferable I don't even dislike Halsin as a first impression. On the good news: no Alfira. It's even worse than this, because the other two "good" companions would be a ranger and a barbarian. So we'll have huge amounts of overlap across all four whereby making a decently viable party with just them will not be possible. As I expected, as the final details of the game are revealed, my disappointments with the game are being confirmed one by one. The difficulty settings announcement was also a huge disappointment. Same with the level cap because that's going to make multiclassing not worth it. |

Glad they scrapped the party lock I'm glad the Haslin fans got their way. And, as long as the Minthara fans respect the restraining order, I'll say I'm happy for them as well. The press release was funny! While I deeply respect the opinions of those who disagree, I've been pleased with the writing thus far. I remain critical of the game mechanics and communication but I do think Larian has some good writers on staff. Half orcs! I'm glad they went this route instead of "orcs" Last edited by KillerRabbit; 30/06/23 03:30 AM. |

Wasn't he created when the barbarian/berserker class didn't exist in D&D, and isn't he specifically mentioned to be a member of a Berserker lodge? I've been wondering if Larian was going to change his class to match that... I'm assuming he'll be a ranger since they made Karlach a Barbarian, but idk if anything official has been said. |

I don't think it's been confirmed, but though you're right he probably would have been created as a barbarian had the class existed at the time I don't think it could or should be changed now given that he's now so well established as a ranger in the lore. Quite apart from his trusty animal companion, Boo, in the "Heroes of Baldur's Gate" comics Minsc's now sprung-to-life statue is said to be of "The Beloved Ranger" implying that's how he's come to be known to posterity. But while I hope and believe Minsc will still primarily be a ranger, I'm sure Larian will find a way to give a beserker flavour to him, either through multiclassing, feats, or just homebrewing as I think BG1 did when it gave him the Beserk special ability. "You may call it 'nonsense' if you like, but I've heard nonsense, compared with which that would be as sensible as a dictionary!" |
