I'm all for gray characters, but I'd have wanted more that were definitely a lighter shade of gray. So while I'm personally not unhappy with the party we'll ultimately get, I'm still disappointed in the lost potential of the roster.

Although it seems like we're going to already have two potential Fighters on our hands (Lae'zel obviously, and potentially Jaheira depending on what they do with her), I would nominate Aradin for this. No creche or hissing at me, and no long and storied history with the previous games, just a temperamental set of muscles for my party with a great head of curls.

It's a long way of saying I agree with this point. I'm very happy to see companions added alongside Origins as this helps us expand our roster and help maneuver through the pairs of characters that simply cannot and will not co-exist - which I think is a great thing - but I would like to see it expanded just a bit more. Maybe it will with time, who knows. I'm still in the honeymoon phase of this info dump so I could be overly positive at the moment.

Speaking of the info dump, there's a lot of stuff here that really has me jazzed. They threw in some non-PHB subclasses that I really like and was not expecting. Dragonborn look fantastic, and I'm a fan of Half-Orcs so that has me in a great mood. I'm interested to see what they did with Monk. Karlach looks incredible. While I was personally holding out hope for level 14 cap, a cap of level 12 is still perfectly fine. No Aasimars does bum me out just a tad. No party lock is huge and for some reason gives me hope that they may have budged on letting us choose a larger party size as an option but, again, the hype is making me overly positive.

Great update! July 7th can't come soon enough with its added information.

We also did a lot of work house-ruling this class, re-balancing Monks and giving them more Ki to ensure they feel powerful next to our other classes. So we're introducing brand new actions to play with.
...

Anyone else see this? What could this mean?

I am pretty sure the community has been quite disappointed in the amount of home-brew by Larian and is this going to be another debacle?

I guess only time will tell. This also has me shuttering over how stealth mechanics continue to work, other "bonus action but should be full action" abilities and skills in the game, and reactions throughout the combat/game mechanics.

Aren't monks the class that is a meme in the DnD community for being the worst one in tabletop? If so I am more than ok with some homebrew.

But she won't be our final Origin - you'll have to tune in to next week’s Panel From Hell: Release Showcase for that.

What does "that" from that sentence refer to?

So paraphrasing:
"Karlach isn't our final Origin - we will reveal our Final Origin in next week's Panel From Hell"

There can only be one final Origin - therefore I assume only one more Origin will be revealed.

Technically, Larian could reveal multiple characters and as long as they reveal all origins that are meant to ship their statement would be correct as one of them can be treated as "the final one" - but that would be a very weird way of phrasing it. They don't say they will reveal remaining origins or that is more to come - they say: we will reveal out final origin. Singular.

No variant human? Seems kind of weird given how easy it is to implement. Regardless, I'm glad I won't have choose between BG3 and Starfield now.

Up to ten companions - 6 origin and 4 non-origin - with more on the way.

I'm guessing we get at least two more at the PFH as 11 would be a rather odd number to settle on.

I'm not sure if "odd numbers" is an issue of any kind when it comes to the number of companions, but I'm kinda hoping for some chance of some late addition to the cast.
It would be a a bit of bummer if we are locked with a range of companions that are all pciked from EA/Act 1 out of the first NPCs with more than two lines we met on EA, only because a bunch of weirdos immediately started simping HARD for them.

And frankly while the community put its best effort in making him come off as almost insufferable I don't even dislike Halsin as a first impression.
Minthara on the other hand is someone I can't f*cking stand, so the hope would be for some better options down the line.

On the good news: no Alfira.

Yes, and one assumed both are available only through good path. Not ideal, as it seems we won't cover all classes anyway - only increases my suspision that Helsin and Minthara are feedback driven additions.

It's even worse than this, because the other two "good" companions would be a ranger and a barbarian. So we'll have huge amounts of overlap across all four whereby making a decently viable party with just them will not be possible. New (earlier for PC, later for PS5) BG3 release date and more (82)

As I expected, as the final details of the game are revealed, my disappointments with the game are being confirmed one by one. The difficulty settings announcement was also a huge disappointment. Same with the level cap because that's going to make multiclassing not worth it.

Good things -

I'm glad the number of companions is creeping up! I'm glad they are some good companions - I wonder if Jaheria will be multiclassed?

Glad they scrapped the party lock

I'm glad the Haslin fans got their way. And, as long as the Minthara fans respect the restraining order, I'll say I'm happy for them as well.

The press release was funny! While I deeply respect the opinions of those who disagree, I've been pleased with the writing thus far. I remain critical of the game mechanics and communication but I do think Larian has some good writers on staff.

Half orcs! I'm glad they went this route instead of "orcs"

Has it been officially confirmed that Minsc will be a ranger? Wasn't he created when the barbarian/berserker class didn't exist in D&D, and isn't he specifically mentioned to be a member of a Berserker lodge? I've been wondering if Larian was going to change his class to match that...

I'm assuming he'll be a ranger since they made Karlach a Barbarian, but idk if anything official has been said.

Jaheira was Fighter/Druid, although the Druid part was highlighted ("Nature's servant is ready!"). Larian could make her a Fighter who took "Druid Adept" at 4th lvl. Or Nature Domain Cleric.
Or simply heap various Fighter/Martial Feats on her - she will not go Mamma Bear on her foes, but Smash Skulls for Goodness Nature.

I don't think it's been confirmed, but though you're right he probably would have been created as a barbarian had the class existed at the time I don't think it could or should be changed now given that he's now so well established as a ranger in the lore. Quite apart from his trusty animal companion, Boo, in the "Heroes of Baldur's Gate" comics Minsc's now sprung-to-life statue is said to be of "The Beloved Ranger" implying that's how he's come to be known to posterity. But while I hope and believe Minsc will still primarily be a ranger, I'm sure Larian will find a way to give a beserker flavour to him, either through multiclassing, feats, or just homebrewing as I think BG1 did when it gave him the Beserk special ability.

FAQs

Is Baldur's Gate 3 going to be on PS5 or PC? ›

Summary. The PC version of Baldur's Gate 3 has better performance and graphics, but the PS5 version still looks impressive and offers the advantage of playing on a larger screen. The PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 has slightly slower loading times and occasional buffering during battles.

When can I play BG3 early access on PS5? ›

Early access for Digital Deluxe owners starts on September 2 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. There is no early access for the standard release, so people buying that version can get started on September 6.

Why is Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 delayed? ›

Due to production changes outside of our control, we have had to follow certain processes specifically set by production companies when manufacturing the PS5 discs, and unfortunately, the approval for particular regions has taken much longer than expected.

How many endings does BG3 have? ›

So, while BG3 doesn't really have 17,000 completely unique endings, there are at least 17,000 variations on the endings it has. Most players will probably never see the same exact ending variation twice, which makes each replay as interesting as the last. But the exact number of endings doesn't count for much.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 worth it? ›

Baldur's Gate 3 is an excellent game. The PC version of Larian Studios' D&D epic will easily be a frontrunner in game of the year discussions come December, and the PlayStation 5 version is a comparable experience, at least if you don't have a beefy enough PC to run the game well.

What resolution is Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5? ›

The PS5 version lets you turn performance mode on or off. Both result in a 1440p resolution. Performance mode targets 60 frames per second and, according to Digital Foundry, for the most part the game hits that. As is the case with the PC version, in the PS5 version the city of Baldur's Gate itself causes some issues.

What is the level cap for BG3 early access? ›

In the game's early access release, players can achieve a maximum level of 5, which is just enough for most of the spellcaster classes to gain access to third-level spells.

Does Baldur's Gate 3 early access give you the full game? ›

No. Baldur's Gate 3 early access saves will not transfer to the full game. If you've already played in early access, say goodbye to your character. Time to start fresh with the full release, because "the game is so vastly different that it's not possible to make those save files compatible."

How far can you go in Baldur's Gate 3 early access? ›

Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access Story Lenght and How Far You Can Play. In Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access, you can play until you reach the end of the first act. Even though the story is limited, you'll get a reasonable taste of it and want to learn more.

How many hours will baldurs gate 3 be? ›

When focusing on the main objectives, Baldur's Gate 3 is about 66 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 158 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

How long to beat Baldur's Gate 3 early access? ›

How long to beat Baldur's Gate 3? According to developers, Larian Studios, Baldur's Gate 3's main story will take between 75 - 100 hours to complete, but of course, that's far from all the content there is to see.

How big is Baldur's Gate 3 PS5? ›

Baldur's Gate 3 is about three times larger than Baldur's Gate 2 as a massive and more open map. Without a doubt, this highly acclaimed game has a significant file size: it requires players to set aside 150 GB on PC and 108.831 GB on PS5. Actually, the game itself only has an install size of 122 GB.

Will the Emperor betray you in BG3? ›

First things first, freeing Orpheus will make the Emperor betray you and join the Netherbrain, since you're taking away his protection, which means you'll have to fight him during the final battle.

What happens if you side with the emperor in BG3? ›

Siding with the Emperor means losing a character and facing a harder Netherbrain fight. The choice in BG3 is a sacrifice, with no real winner, and all options mean losing something in return.

What is the most evil ending in BG3? ›

Right now, the most evil ending you can get involves becoming the Absolute. There are a few variations on this, as you can partner up with Astarion or Minthara to take the throne together, or just take all the power for yourself. If you're playing as The Dark Urge, you can even claim it in Bhaal's name.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 coming to PC? ›

It remained in early access until its full release for Windows in August 2023, with versions for PlayStation 5, macOS, and Xbox Series X/S releasing later that year.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 cross-platform PS5 PC? ›

Does Baldur's Gate 3 have cross-platform progression? We can confirm that Baldur's Gate 3 features cross-platform progression. This means you will have a cross-save across PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Hence, you can switch between platforms at any time without losing your story progression.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation? ›

You can download and play this content on the main PS5 console associated with your account (through the “Console Sharing and Offline Play” setting) and on any other PS5 consoles when you login with your same account.

What platform is Baldur's Gate 3 going to be on? ›

Baldur's Gate 3 is available digitally on PS5 and PC.
