As a newly admitted international graduate student at Virginia Commonwealth University, I've had a positive experience overall. I appreciate the vibrant campus atmosphere, diverse student body, and supportive faculty. I equally enjoy the hands-on learning opportunities and access to library resources and research facilities, career development services amongst others.

As a student in long-term recovery, I enjoy that VCU has a collegiate recovery program that assists with support for its students. I transferred to VCU this year after finding Rams In Recovery while in Community College completing my associates after taking a 12-year hiatus during active addiction. I joined their recovery community and received coaching services from their certified peer recovery specialists who are always available. I was able to graduate community college with a GPA of 2.88 (I only had a few classes left and brought that up dramatically), I completed a career studies certificate in substance abuse education as well before transferring with a GPA of 3.82. I feel had I not found VCU's collegiate recovery program and its support I would not be doing as well as I am, the other students that frequent the clubhouse are inspirational and keep me going.

The social life and diversity is what really caught my attention before even considering coming to VCU. There’s so many people from different backgrounds, and being at VCU has introduced me to a lot of new people I never thought I’d interact with.

Overall I have enjoyed my time at Virginia Commonwealth University so far. Academic wise the school is amazing. The professors are willing to work with students to better understand things, they have a peer academic counseling program that allows an upperclassman to adopt an underclassman to mentor, and many other programs and help centers so the only way that you can fail is if you aren't using the resources provided to you. The party scene is honestly hit or miss. You have to find the right pages and people throwing them because you have bigger pages with the lit parties, then the less popular pages where everyone is just standing on the wall waiting for something to happen. Overall, I definitely recommend coming here and as long as you use your resources and build connections you will also enjoy it

t sounds like you have a deep affection for Virginia Commonwealth University! There could be many reasons why you love it. Perhaps it's the vibrant campus atmosphere, the sense of community among students and faculty, the quality of education you're receiving, the opportunities for personal and academic growth, or the beautiful surroundings in Richmond. What specifically draws you to VCU?

VCU's response to a peaceful protest right before finals week was disgraceful, but the general vibe with the students and professors is good.

What I like about VCU is the opportunities they offer, such as study abroad programs. I like the professors and their encouragement, and I like the dining experience at True Balance in the AVO Kitchen. However, I do wish students could decide whether they want classes at night since I do not feel safe on campus at night. I also wish there were more dining options for students with food allergies; there should be multiple dining places such as True Balance that are allergy friendly. Lastly, I wish the professors in each program/school would provide all materials and supplies needed and the amount needed for the semester at the beginning of the semester. Otherwise, the faculty give great feedback and have so far been inclusive and accommodating to my disabilities, and I have learned plenty since arriving at VCU.

I love the diversity of VCU. The campus is open making it easy to explore outside of ur campus area which i think is very freeing. There is also a lot of help provided for students to do better.

I loved the overall sense of community and my peers at VCU. I connected with so many professors that I still talk to regularly and have guided / served as a mentor to me. Would’ve liked to see more engagement with study abroad programs / funding opps

My overall experience with VCU has been a positive one. The inclusivity the campus has really helps someone like me who is used to such an exclusive area. The students are so friendly and helping all the time. The college also gives the students lots of opportunities to grow in what they want to major in like with interns or volunteering right there at school. This is why VCU is a school I can proudly say is really fantastic.

While I love VCU' s courses as they are rigourous and entertaining, the campus is in the middle of Downtown Richmond, and as with any city, can get dangerous at night, as there is no separation between the campus and the City. I do not recommend going out at night, and if you do, it is important to have a good understanding of self defense and safety

At VCU it is quite an experience to be a part of this environment. Even though it is in the middle of the city VCU has great academic resources and learning materials to go to. My experience so far has been nice I haven't had no issues with the campus itself. I'm looking forward to further my education here more!

I had a great experience at VCU and met some incredible people and professors. I enjoyed (most) of my classes. Main complaint as a VCUarts alum is the CommArts building needs A LOT of work, but I guess that won't be an issue once the new arts building is built!

I love it here there is no place I would rather go to school. The professors (for the most part) really care about you and will do whatever they can in order for you to succeed. The advisors are extremely kind and helpful, and the student health services people are super professional and hepful.
