She was a member of Girl Scout Troop 400 of Toms River, loved swimming, riding her scooter, playing in the park and trips to the beach but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Maria was born in Portugal on November 24, 1954. In 1969, Maria and her family relocated to the U.S., where they lived in Newark.
She also lived in Middletown, and in 2002, settled in Holmdel. Maria is survived by her mother, Palmira Abrantes; her loving children, Phil Batista of Middletown, Cristi-na Cajeira and her husband Tinton Falls, died Wednes day, December 28, 2011 at Kensington Court in Tinton Falls. She was employed by the Long Branch Daily Record and Gannett Outdoor Advertising before retiring. Born in Newark, she had lived in West Long Branch before moving to Tinton Falls.
