I knew I wanted to make a Valentine’s Day shadow box,but I’m fickle, so I couldn’t decide what I wanted to put inside.Ittook wandering around the craft store for ridiculous amounts of timebefore it came to me.
I didn’t have to decide. I could make a two’fer!
And so it was that this Valentine’s Day shadow box came to be, and it’s perfect for the non-decision maker in all of us.
Valentine’s Day Shadow Box
What You’ll Need:
12 x 12-inch shadow box frame
12 x 12-inch scrapbook paper
Stickers with love or Valentine’s Day phrases (Mine were from Heidi Swapp)
Rose petals
Foam conversation hearts
Ribbon
Tacky glue or hot glue/gun
When I originally decided to do a two-in-one Valentine’s Day shadow box, I thought I’d use two different sheets of background scrapbook paper, so I bought two. In the end, I decided I only wanted to use one sheet for both looks. So that’s why you see the swirly paper in this shot, but not in the final project.
1. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may. I found bags of rose petals at the craft store, and I was going to go that route, but they were expensive, shapeless and all looked the same. Ixnay. So, I found a styrofoam Valentine’s Day wreath in the sale sectionwith textured and glittery petals, and I deconstructed it at home. Less expensive and cuter — win win!
2. Choose two sticker phrases, and apply the first one in the upper right corner of the scrapbook paper. Flip the paper 180 degrees and apply a second sticker phrase in the opposite right hand corner.
3. Decide which phrase you’ll be displaying and whether you’d like to use rose petals or conversation hearts. Turn the shadow box upside down, and arrange the petals or hearts facing towards the glass. I started with the hearts.
4. Place the scrapbook paper over your arrangement. It will be upside down when you put it in the frame so that it’s visible when you flip the shadow box over. Close up the box, flip over and voila! You have your first Valentine’s Day shadow box design!
5. Using the glue of your choice (I used hot glue because it dries immediately), adhere ribbon around the shadow box frame. If you just dab glue in the corners, it should hold fine. No need to glue along the length of the ribbon.
6. To change the look, simply open up the frame and replace the hearts with rose petals. Flip the scrapbook paper around to the other phrase, and voila — a whole new look in minutes! Isn’t that fun?
